Serebii Character Interviews

Serebii Forums ran a series of “character interview” threads from 2016 to 2020 where authors could submit their characters, introduce them, and have them ask each other questions. For the various Serebii iterations, three Suocéverse characters were brought up to interview.

The activities and responses of these characters in the threads are considered Semicanon to the Suocéverse, at least.

Format

For the purposes of the thread, each interview is framed as a scene where a nebulous interviewer / narrator, representing the meta interaction of the thread, passes questions forth and back. The interviewer happens to find the MC during a lull in activity at certain point in their canon lives.

Eltenios Interview

Eltenios's interview is framed as a communal gathering of Pokémon in the Mezze Estate, at a time post- Playfield (and likely post-Stars of Suocé) where Eltenios is taking a rest at the Estate while on the way to deliver some messages to the northern side of the country.

Eltenios' interview is unique in that it is presented in first person perspective from Eltenios himself, as such it also presents some of his inner thoughts.

Questions

The following are questions that Eltenios answered:

Part 1:

How would you introduce yourself to a stranger?
Where do you live?
What's your family like?
What do you want to do with your life? How does what you're doing now relate to that?
What's your most unusual trait?
What's a sure way to make you angry?
What's your biggest accomplishment?
What decision do you most regret?
What do you think is the most important thing for other people to understand about you?
If you could change just one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Part 2:

Are you sure the ones you love care about you? What would you do if everything collapsed right before your eyes?
What does love mean to you?
What makes you happy?
What makes you uncomfortable?

Part 3:

What exactly is it what you do, and what forces are you working for?
Why did you have to leave your family behind to take your job?
How do you think your life would be different if you hadn't gotten called by the emperor?
What will you do when you get too old to run anymore?
It sounds like you don't have a great love of humans, but what about other pokémon?
You mention you enjoy spending time with others of your kind (“seekers, runners”). Are those mostly other arcanine, or are they of different species?
What are your feelings about pokémon that don't like to run the way you do?

Part 4:

So, I take it you've actually met the guardian forces in person? At least Terrakion? What are they like?
Do you have any particular favorite stories from your time as a messenger?
…Have you ever failed to deliver something you were sent with?
What does it feel like to evolve? Were you happy to become an arcanine, or would you have liked to stay a growlithe for a bit longer?
Is there anyone in particular you look up to? Anyone you aspire to be more like?
What do you think fear is?

Notable Points

  • Eltenios mentions about the Sovereign that Virizion tends to make himself scarce from humans and that Cobalion is the more forceful of the three. This was two years before Forever Catch released and codified the two's personalities, where it is the other way around.
  • More than a few times Eltenios compares his job and the fact that it is “legit” and happens on safe ground, to the life out in the seas as a pirate, which is the setting and work line of Fledglingsverse!Eltenios (with the encompassing worldbuilding by SpitefulMurkrow and Virgil134).
  • The first offering that he failed to deliver, to the eclipse-gathering in the southern country, eventually sets the second half of the plot of “Gelid Remainder(TBA) .
  • This is the first time Eltenios admits onscreen that Berecien is faster than him; though the first time it will happen chronologically will be during “Retinues of Cadrícea(TBA) .
  • The “fire-magician” Pokémon Eltenios delivered some Litwick to is Zohchihfa, and the delivery is intended to be one of the background elements for “Interim(TBA) .
  • Eltenios mentions that he can find excuse for Cobalion to send the interviewer some talkative Litwick as punishment; technically, the Sovereign Eltenios would have to convince is Terrakion who is his direct superior and also the Sovereign who took over association with the areas where the Litwick live.

Inka Interview

Inka's interview is framed as a head-of-state interview taking place in the walls of the La Plancha Sovereignty sometime shortly before Inka takes down Rhanzikik and hostilities with the Ísparus Draconic Claim starts to die down. This would set the interview at some time late spring or early summer of 3734 PE(~1 after Gen1) , a year after the events of Generation III and at most a few weeks before her appearance in Built for Risk .

Questions

Part 1 (introductory questions).

Part 2:

How did you feel when you realized you were to have your first litter?
Did the things you learned from your time with humans feed into your life now? Are there lessons in the strange games and traditions of humans that even a Pokémon sovereign can use?

Part 3:

If you found out you only had one day and one night left to live, what would you do?

Part 4:

It sounds like you were famous when accompanied by your Trainer. How did you come to be living in the wild, then?
Would you go back to being a trained pokémon if you could?
You seem quite proud of your water gem. What's the story behind it?
What are your duties as a queen? What do you spend most of your time doing?
About those “white wings”… How did you begin fighting against them? Have they only started attacking recently, or are you joining a conflict that's been going on for a long time already?
How do you fight against them?
What do you hate the most?

Notable Points

  • Inka mentions that while her evolutive stage are named “Nidoqueen” she herself would be titled only “Queen. Sovereign.” While this is correct, the canonical title he holds in human terms is that of “Empress” of La Plancha.
  • When numbering her offspring she mentions “one the first”; this refers to Maekrite, who was in this continuity the only survivor of her first litter.
  • Inka mentions that her Trainer taught her “how to fight humans” and that she bested the machines humans use to “trap us, or trap your own”. This reflects the fact that in this continuity her Trainer has a copy of, and helped write, the Nidoran chapter of Mysteries of the Earth.
  • Praxiteles's question where they speak of sending “tribute of elemental gems” is to be credited as the reason why the Sovereignty of La Plancha traded in elemental gems before Inka's time for when “Retinues of Cadrícea(TBA) or “Commerce at Heart:!: N/A? come about.
  • Inka's mentions of her time of “the hunter becoming the hunted” and the world of Trainers “tainting everything” refers to the story arc of the Fall of Pokefutures which her Trainer helped cause and lived through.

Volyrina Interview

Volyrina's interview is framed as a chance encounter at the water fountain on the Post Town crossroads. The timeframe could be anywhere during the second or third plot arc of the Gates to Infinity storyline, and it is definitively placed before Where We Live And Work .

Questions

Part 1:

Who are you?
What is the stupidest decision you've ever made, and did it affect your life in a huge way?
Then who was phone?
Have you met your world's dieties [sic]? If there are any.
Are you close with ant non-Legendary Pokémon, as I've heard other worlds call them?

Part 2:

How much are you willing to forgive of someone?
Can you stop destroying my home with your metal junk and your stinky pollution?
What is your goal in life?

Notable Points

  • There is a mention to the canon events of Rescue Team and that “a green dragon ate a meteor”. In Suocéverse PMD all the events of the games took place in the same 'verse and general timeline.
  • Volyrina also describes and qualifies Virizion meeting everyone else in Post Town as a “don't meet your heroes” kind of situation.
  • Volyrina mentions having been scammed twice or even thrice, which is made canon in Where We Live And Work .
