This one-shot was my entry for the 2017 version of the SWC (Short Writing Contest), under the prompt “magic”. The story deals with how a human perceives Ho-Oh as not a godly or magical bird, but as a creature with powers that are mundane except just difficult to grasp. Ho-Oh is well aware of the failings in this idealization, but he can't really help it if the human gets the wrong impression of everything and insists on constructing his own narrative.
The entry has a reference to Ho-Oh being a former Protector of Johto, and makes mention of the fan idea of the three creatures revived in the Ecruteak Towers fire being three Eeveelutions. This fanon idea is considered canon in the Suocéverse.
As per October 2017, this entry is under revision to also take part of the WAAPT canon.
The story is set at an undetermined point in time between the events of Generations Ⅰ and Ⅴ. Mention is made of ~400 years since Ho-Oh left the Ecruteak Towers, but no mention is made about his return to Johto during G2.
Ho-Oh's current perch is stated to be the Mountain of Revival, a location named after the similar Revival Mountain scenario in Pokémon Rumble World. This is the first entry in the Suocéverse that uses or canonizes aspects of the Rumble World series into the continuity.
