Drao” is the Dragon Trio (Creation Trio)'s first fully-abled sapient creation, and from which they created the draconic Pokémon races. The entity itself's real name, species or appearance is unknown, although it is known that at some time during the Ancient History of the Pokémon World, the creature somehow split itself into different creatures; the original survived as a concept in myth nowadays called the “Original Dragon”, whereas its split forms eventually became the Pokémon Reshiram and Zekrom, as well as rumored others.

Meta-wise, the Drao is an implementation of the canon-fanon idea of the Original Dragon.

History

Because of its place as the first creature of their kind sired by the Dragon Trio, most draconic races consider the Drao a pivotal element in their creation myths, and the proudest Dragon Sovereignties have taken to the term “drao” as a label for their elite castes, in particular those among them thought sometimes to be “pure” dragons: monotype Dragon types of the Dragon Egg Group.

After the emergence of Reshiram and Zekrom prior to the War of the Vale, the Dragonspiral Moors Sovereignty was born as a monument and place of worship for them as representatives of the Drao. As the first “natural” being of their kind, the Drao, and thus Reshiram and Zekrom, are there revered as dragon deities, and considered the forefathers of dragonkind, although Reshiram and Zekrom have half-heartedly stated a couple of times that, biologically or historically speaking, this is not actually the case.
