The story basically follows Giovanni's Persian in his day to day as the absolute ruler of Team Rocket… at least in his own eyes, while Giovanni has to deal with some of the burdens of the position.
The first part of the story has Persian accompanying Giovanni during office hours, as he usually does, but the two of them are rather tired as an already tiresome acquisition of a competing firm stretches even further.
The second part has Giovanni and Persian spending some time together now that the meeting is over, and they go out for a playful hunt in the city when Persian's arch-enemy (he's the leader of Team Rocket, of course he has an arch-enemy!) shows up to mock him.
The third part has Persian accompany Giovanni to some laboratories for a report on a project Giovanni's people have been working on, with Persian not understanding at first why would humans spend so much effort in the pursuit of a goal that is not pleasing and worshipping him.
“Overlord” was my somewhat late entry for the “Criminal Intent” Serebii contest, where the prompt given was to write about any facet of the so-called Evil Teams, “whether it be a short ficlet about the daily life of low-ranking grunts, a large-scale heist thriller or a character study of your favorite team leader, it's all fair game so long as the story is clearly about the team”. This entry scored the 5th place tied with fellow write Umbramatic's entry – very fitting, since he was the one who convinced me to join in on the fun.
The story is basically a collection of pieces of the life of Giovanni and his Giovanni's Persian, focusing on the various activities of the villainous leader - be it a father, a businessman or a… well, villainous leader; however, always with the twist that the protagonist is Persian and he knows it, for he as a cat is alone fit to rule over the humans of Team Rocket, with Giovanni as his trusted partner and “translator”.
This is the third entry I write featuring a canon character.
