Auld Foundations

Summary

  • In the wake of several problems with politics and infrastructure, the city of Salípolis enacts an ordinance temporarily banning Pokémon workers within the city. But Sorento, a bike gang member who trains his Houndoom to act as a caretaker for children, doesn't give the ordinance the benefit of the doubt.

Release

Premise

The story follows Sorento, a bike gang member by night, food attendant by day, and his Houndoom Lira, as they faces the consequences of a new temporary ordinance passed in Salípolis that forbids Pokémon workers from accessing the city.

Cast

Locations

The story takes place in a city only ever named as “the City”, a multilevel city built on the face of a mountain. Hints are spread through the story that this is actually the city of Salípolis.

Meta

Continuity

Commentary from various characters places the story sometime in the timeframe from 3733 PE(~0 after Gen1) (after the Near Apocalypse of 3733) to at most a few months after 3735 PE(~2 after Gen1) (after the Lega Runa Battle Tower formally opens to the public). In particular commentary from the bike gang members who are unsure of who is the Champion might put the story closer to the tail end of year 3733, as there are rumours concerning the identity of the Champion (at a time when Machalí sol Linaros) and Ravir Eisenhorth were trading for the title).

References

There are various references to other works as well as worldbuilding elements of the Suocéverse.

  • Virizion being one of the rulers of the cities to the south is mentioned at some point.
  • There are rumours that the current Champion has a Nidoqueen.
  • Armando Pedrazas appears in an interview announcing that his battle tower (the Lega Runa Battle Tower) is about to become fully operational, referencing Built for Risk .
  • It is mentioned that a political scandal a few years ago resulted in cancellation of the local Conference Tournament, referring to the after-effects of the Fall of Pokefutures and the direct consequences of Registro Cero.
  • A “war between wild Pokémon” is mentioned, referring to the background elements of the Ísparus Draconic Claim.
  • Someone mentions it is a shame that Pokémon are not motorcycles. Generation Ⅸ, released concurrent to this story, had by this time revealed the two Dragon-Motorcycle Pokémon, Koraidon and Miraidon.
