The story follows a Kommo-o parent who has just brought in a fresh Charmeleon kill into the nest where he lives with his hatchlings.

The Kommo-o tries to teach the children important lessons, such as that killed prey can be eaten or that you have to eat warm prey fast otherwise it will cool off, or that Charmander species does not count as “true dragons”. Content with the hatchlings taking in the explanation, the Kommo-o leaves for a nap.

Not long after the Kommo-o wakes up with the sound of combat, his hatchlings missing from the nest. The father tracks down the sounds to Area 8, the resident Charizard nest, and realizes to his dismay, the hatchlings seem to have taken the wrong lesson: they have gone off on their merry way towards the Charizard nest in the area, to try and get warm prey on their own!

The story takes place in a nondescript mountain area. The only named features are the Kommo-o nest where the protagonists live, and a Charizard nest near a cliff face.

The Charizard nest being located in “Area 8” is a reference to Monster Hunter Tri's Deserted Island map, where Area 8 hosts a nest of Raths, fire-breathing flying wyverns that here serve as the narrative analogue to Charizard.
