Some time after her release, Azelf gets word that feline Pokémon are complaining that canine Pokémon get too much attention from humans. Taking advantage that Uxie is busy dealing with the felines, Azelf goes to explore the world to see what canine Pokémon are about.

The story follows Azelf across six scenes where she observes the behaviour of canine Pokémon and makes her observations:

1. Zacian & Zamazenta: Azelf observes how the two Legendaries, tasked with solving local apocalypses, make fools of themselves for the attention of a Trainer (presumably the G8 hero/ine).
2. Yamper: Azelf observes how Yamper aid humans by taking on the herding role that in a herd of Mareep would otherwise be held by an Ampharos; but Azelf also observes the dogs are far too eager to please the humans.
3. Rockruff: Azelf observes how a pack of dogs tries to win the day by interfering in a fight between Sableye and Zigzagoon packs; however Azelf notes that without their evolved form to lead them, Rockruff lack coordination and defense against the many threats of the island such as its apex predator.
4. Manectric: Azelf observes how a formerly trained specimen fares in the wild after being released; but while this specimen can plan and fight well, Azelf notes that this “lone wolf” has no one to hunt with or to pass down his battle and life experience to.
5. Houndoom: Azelf observes how a Houndoom protects her human against the dangers that human machines can not detect, and in the process helps defend other humans; Azelf notes that while the Houndoom earned trust from the hospital staff, she already counts with her human.
6. Arcanine: Azelf observes as a delegation of a Legendary meets with humans in a town, and the Arcanine that should be a symbol of fiery power is treated as pettable by children; Azelf realizes then it is the children, future Trainers, who are to decide which Pokémon is “the best”.

Each scene (other than Scene 3) takes place in a loosely described location.

1. Zacian & Zamazenta: somewhere in Galar.
2. Yamper “the highlands” somewhere in presumably the same landmass Galar is in.
3. Rockruff: Isla Triángulo, Emisre.
4. Manectric: Plains near Marisávide, Suocé.
5. Houndoom: a hospital somewhere in Suocé (presumably in Acrasia).
6. Arcanine: a nondescript town within the Cadrícean Widefields.

The story was supposed to have one extra scene featuring Herdier and Snubbull but it was cut off for deadlines.

Some of the scenes in this story reference other stories – in some cases, previous SWC contest entries:

• The fight scene with the Rockruff in Isla Triángulo references a similar scene in A Good Year to Rawr and also features a cameo by Taverna.
• The scene with the prowling Manectric references Tricks of the Love Fast and also features a cameo by the (still unnamed) Cyanoger.
• The hospital scene with the Houndoom taking care of her Trainer references Auld Foundations and also features a cameo by Lyra, here unnamed.
• The townspeople scene references Cobalion making efforts to meet with humans in Forever Catch and features Eltenios in his role as one of the trio's retinues in an unnamed role, with Azelf herself referencing Playfield .
