General notes on the various Berries, as found on the Suocéverse.
G2 has a special set of berries not seen anywhere else. In the Suocéverse they are mapped to special plants:
| G2 Berry | Mapping | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Mint Berry | Mint | Cures SLP. |
| Ice Berry | – (maybe Aloe) | Cures BRN. |
| Burnt Berry | – | Cures FRZ. |
| Miracleberry | – | Cures non-volatile ailments. |
Nidoran in the La Plancha Mesa sometimes farm Ice Berry or its equivalent, whereas Zigzagoon collect and trade on Mint Berry, which becomes their main trade once the Ísparus Claim starts attacking.
Owing to being their original location, Ice Berry and Burnt Berry are also farmed in the Goldenrod Colony.
Mienfoo and other mons in the Dragonspiral Moors farm and stock on Persim Berry due to its capacity to cure confusion, a common ailment dragons in the Tower get into as they unleash more powerful attacks.
The Qualot Berry is one of the main trade items of the Omixence wilderness.
In the southern side of the La Plancha mesa, Payapa Berry is sought after. Nidoran want it for its capacity to palliate the effects of Psychic attacks, whereas Rock-types and Ground-types from the hillside and the southern escarpments leading to the mesa want it for its conveniently shaped and durable shell, which can be used to line nests. Mons there call it “wadá”, another term for the guada or porongo that the Payapa Berry is actually modelled after.
Baluarkos knows of a hidden Apicot Berry tree in the Mesa, near the eastern faulds where he and Inka are hosted, and that is his “secret tree” that he takes care of during the events of Tricks of the Love Fast , and the sudden picking of the tree by an intruder drives his unease for the first chapters.
The tree may be extremely rare in La Mesa (and in the Suocé region in general), as no other specimens are shown in any other storyline in the area. Baluarkos calls the fruit of his tree “arcoca”, after the Spanish term “es:albaricoque” referring to the apricot fruit the berry is named after. The proper in-universe term is undecided(meta/in-universe).
A running gag across the Suocéverse is that the Lansat Berry is sought after for its hallucinogen properties, and its extract is actually trafficked as a drug “Lansat syrup”. Gesta suggests it can be used as a palliative for pain in Beyond Today . Kalas features in his backstory participating in an operation in which he helped disband a Lansat trafficking ring. Stoates would have it as an eventual storyline to help scare away a Pangoro trafficking Lansat berries with feral mons in Goldenrod.
In-universe and owing to the traditional portrayal of Italian mafias, high-ranking traffickers of Lansat are called lanzoni, after “lanzone”, one of the denominations of the fruit.
The hallucinogen properties of the berry could be related to the fact that it raises Crit% in a pinch.
In-universe, three varieties of berries: “Kuo”, “Yago” and “Ginema” are thought to have become extinct after the events of the Near-Apocalypse of 3733 due to the severe environmental damage caused by Kyogre and Groudon. These correspond to the R/S-exclusive e-Card Reader Series berries of the same names, which were not reintroduced in G4. Their IU status is undecided(meta/in-universe).
Two other variants of e-Card berries “Touga” and “Niniku” would have been recovered from transplants, and would be set to be introduced in later stories featuring Ĵivadma's retirement.
